The Culture

The brief history of the Sub-Culture (Wikipedia)

Hip Hop (also, Hip-Hop) is an artistic sub-culture that originated in the 1970s in the inner city African American, Jamaican and Latino American community of New York City. DJ Afrika Bambaataa outlined the four pillars of Hip-Hop Culture: MCing, DJing, B-boying/B-girling, and graffiti writing. Other elements include hip hop fashion and slang.

Since first emerging in the South Bronx, Hip-hop culture has spread around the world. When hip-hop music first began to emerge, it was based around disc jockeys who created rhythmic beats by looping breaks (small portions of songs emphasizing a percussive pattern) on two turntables, which is now more commonly referred to as sampling. This was later accompanied by "rap", identified as the rhythmic style of chanting or poetry more formally in 16 bar measures or time frames and beatboxing, a vocal technique mainly used to imitate percussive elements of the music and various technical effects of hip-hop DJ's. An original form of dancing and particular styles of dress arose among lovers of this new music. These elements experienced considerable refinement and development over the course of the history of the culture.

The relationship between graffiti and hip hop culture arises from the appearance of new and increasingly elaborate and pervasive forms of the practice in areas where other elements of hip hop were evolving as art forms, with a heavy overlap between those who wrote graffiti and those who practiced other elements of the culture.

Who is currently sitting on the throne?

Through the years since hip hop's 'Golden age era', Lots of talented EMCEEs have emerged, from the days of Nas's classical Illmatic album which most think it redefined NYC hip hop to the latest top selling albums such as Recovery by Eminem, many rappers have been battling it out to sit on the throne or to run the game as we know it, even deceased veterans such as Biggie claimed the crown and since the soldier fell, rappers like Jay-Z assumed the status and claimed the inheritance of this royalty and as years passed by even rappers like Lil' Wayne(now a Rock star Lol) claimed to have got the baton from Jay-Z , But in the words of my homie GURU(R.I.P) The question remains. Your opinions are more than welcomed my fellow heads so you tell us who do you think is currently sitting on the throne and please motivate your answer....
